Make a list and divide the countries between you in the class, work in pairs or small groups and choose one or two countries to describe.
Include:
  • dates/year of occupation and eventual liberation
  • continent
There were different reasons for the British to settle or occupy the countries. Give an account of why your country(ies) were interesting for them.

How is the situation in the countries today?

Great Denmark?

Denmark is also a seafarer nation. Have the Danish colonised countries like Britain did?

Make a research in class:

Did/does Denmark have any colonies?

Where?

Are these independent today?

http://www.bbc.co.uk/history/walk/print/cprint4.shtml This link will bring you to a history page from the BBC. You can print the worksheet directly from the link.

Choose a person you have read about or heard about and write a letter. Use the work sheet to guide you and give you ideas.

Write the letter on a piece of paper and put it in you English folder. You can ask a class mate to give you feed back and ideas on writing letters.

Discussion (see blogpost, here's a link: Discussion)

Discuss with your classmates and collaborating students what you know about slavery.

What do you think?

Can you do something about it?

Slavery back then and today

Does slavery still exist in our days? On this site you can find links to information about colonialism and slavery. But you can also find information about slavery today. Learn about children and young people about your age working in factories and plantations.
